I get asked out on dates all the time, but I’m not someone that subscribes to the theory that you can learn to like or love someone. I believe you have to feel something right away or it’ll never happen. Now my ideal guy is not perfect, just the opposite. My ideal guy is just as fucked up as I am. That will make us both easier to deal with.

Every day I talk to my of my friends, single and attached, about relationships and what they all have in common is that none of them are really happy. It appears that they all just settled for the sake of not being alone which is something I would never do.  The truth be told, I like being single because when I’m not I can’t get any work done. I always end up with some co-dependent asshole that has no life and wants to hump my leg all day in between attempting to make music.

That’s probably something else I should stop doing…dating musicians. What can I say, it’s an occupational hazard, but I love music so much that I feel it necessary to be with someone that loves it as much as me. But I’m finding out that the only chick that can deal with all the quirks of a musician is a stripper. Strippers don’t seem to mind dating broke ass musicians that sit on their couch all day until a gig rolls around. I guess because they make enough money shaking their ass that they don’t really care if their boyfriend gets up and gets a real job. That and the fact that musicians are the only men that think dating a stripper is an upgrade.

Ok now I’m ranting. I guess the moral of this story is that I haven’t found the man that has everything I want in a mate, but I believe that everything happens in due time so there is no need to rush it.

As far as my personal life I only have one thing to say, what personal life? I knew sacrifices would have to be made in that area in order for me to be successful in other areas and I make these sacrifices freely and without any reservations, but enough about work.

This year has been a rollercoaster. While some areas of my life have gotten better, others have just leveled off or faded out.

It dawned on me a few months back that in order to be good at what I do, to be successful at it, I would have to be more than words on a screen, because what I do is more than a job, it’s a lifestyle choice. And part of that lifestyle means I can’t be such a recluse. I have to interact with people and frankly that’s hard for me because I’m not a BIG people person.  I’m not crazy about hanging out. I’ve never been and never will be the life of the party. I don’t care to socialize and I haven’t mastered the art of being fake. So when I’m having a bad day, guess what, so are you.

Despite my lack of certain social graces I have manage to put on a smile and I gave being personable my best effort and although I haven’t done a great job, I’ve definitely come a long way.

After reading this you’re probably saying “this bitch is so anti-social”. Well first off I’m not exactly anti-social and frankly I truly believe that being a little standoffish and being comfortable enough with ones self  that you don’t have a constant need for attention and you don’t act like a damn groupie all the time is a good thing.  I’ve never cared for people that had to be the center of attention, that had to be in the IN crowd to have a feeling of self-worth. In fact I think it’s PATHETIC. The music scene is kind of like being in high school all over again, without the pop quizzes, but with all the DRAMA, but never mind all of that.

I’m really excited about 2010. I’ve learned quite a bit about myself and I’m ready to use what I’ve learned to my advantage and I plan on finding time for a personal life come the new year. Well maybe not right off, but I’m gonna find my balance, because even those with plans of world domination need a day off.

I bore easily. I can’t do the same ol’ thing day in and day out or I lose passion for it. And if you’re not passionate about what you’re doing then their is no reason to do it.

Well like I said a lot of changes are coming to TST, but unfortunately I can’t tell you right now because I notice that TST tends to do a lot of work for others (they attempt to steal our content and ideas) so in order to keep that from happening we have to keep things under wraps until the last minute.

After reading this blog you probably think I don’t have a life and you’re right…I don’t…well not much of one these days because I’m always busy, but hopefully when things calm down at TST I can go back to being jaded over personal issues instead of just professional issues.

Getting the stars aligned in our favor so we can accomplish all these things is what I work about 12 hours a day on. I work so much behind the scenes that I rarely get the chance to write anymore….yeah I know…poor me, but it’s not all work.

Since working for TST I’ve had some fun and met some awesome people. Most of those awesome people work with us, but I have to say that our readers are the best and pretty damn loyal.

Since January we’ve seen and or interviewed Shawn Mullins, Killswitch Engage, Chris Cornell, Mastodon, Neurosis, Black Label Society, Drowning Pool, Rev Theory, Trivium, Shinedown, Marilyn Manson and a host of others…not to mention some great local talent. When I get to the shows I’m in work mode. I have to be cause I’m afraid something is going to go wrong. Usually our work starts before fans head in. Our interviews, photo shoots…etc…happen before the show. So by time the show starts I can finally wind down and enjoy the show just like everyone else.  Now, there are occasions when what’s going on after the show is just as lively as the show itself.

I covered Rockstar Mayhem Fest with a few other crew members and it was MAYHEM. We had 3 or 4 interviews that we had to get out the way but then the running around began. We walked the length of Lakewood Amphitheater at least 100 times. We had to get pictures of each band and there was about thirteen on 3 different stages. We were scrambling to get through a crowd of over 20k so we could take our notes and cover each band (good luck with that).

I was so happy to see Marilyn Manson because was the last act of the night, but even after he finished I still didn’t get home until 5 a.m. I’m having flashbacks of tour buses, conversations with band members, groupies everywhere and somewhere in all that I ended up wearing a sailor cap and dancing to the Austin Powers theme with a certain musician I won’t name, but we kept it PG and it was all in good fun.

So you see it’s not all work….just 99% of it.

I’ve been dealing with the most ridiculous drama and I HATE drama. I do what I can to stay away from it, but I guess as hard as you try you are bound to get caught up eventually.

I always knew that on the way to world domination that I was going to have to make some hard decisions. I knew that I would make some friends/associates and lose some.

You see, I’m a different kind of person. Where as I’m not really emotional, I do wear my heart on my sleeve and I don’t like to keep things bottled up. If I have a problem with you then I’m going to tell you and expect you to do the same. If I don’t like you then you know…I have a really hard time hiding what I feel at times. And I need to work on that.  I guess I need to practice being cold and distant, but that’s really not in my personality.

I’m a giver. I give a lot and I expect just as much in return and I think that’s the problem. I expect people to give as much as I do and when I don’t get it or think others are working as hard as I am…I’m disappointed. Well I guess I’ll have to get over that and just resolve myself to the fact that some people are just fucking assholes and will always disappoint you….run them over and keep moving.

I’ll work on it.

One minute you’re at a show and everyone in Atlanta appears to be there and then for the next few months no one is supporting any shows. And it’s really sad considering that there is some real talent here that people are missing out on.

I have my theory on what’s wrong with the music scene here and I’ll make sure to share that with you later, but in the meantime we’ll continue to do our part and hope that others do theirs.
